NEW DELHI: A 52-year-old man died after he was shot dead by robbers in Shahdara District area early Wednesday morning.
Police claimed that the accused, reportedly three in number, were carrying arms. Cops have registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab the accused.
According to police, the deceased, identified as Suraj Prakash, used to work as a sweeper and lived in the Old Seemapuri area, where the incident took place.
The incident was reported around 1 am, when the deceased was in his house.
Hearing the sounds of gunshot from outside, Prakash came out of his house to have a look.
"He saw a man on a motorcycle, and two others persons, one of whom was wearing helmet, coming out from a nearby house with a pistol in their hand," said a police official.
Cops said that the accused were committing robbery in the house, where an old lady lives.
Seeing that a crowd was gathering, the accused fired in the air to disperse the crowd.
However, the bullet hit the deceased in the chest and collapsed on the spot.
The accused fled the spot, leaving the victim lying in a pool of blood.
A PCR call was made and Prakash was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
