50-year-old labourer dies after mud wall collapses at construction site in Noida
Noida: A 50-year-old labourer was buried alive after a mud wall collapsed at a construction site on Sunday afternoon. Another worker who was trapped in the mud was rescued while he sustained minor injuries.
According to police, the incident took place at an under construction building at G-57 in sector 6 of Noida. The men were working in the basement and were at least 15-20 feet below the ground. While they were engaged in earth work for construction of the basement of under construction commercial building, a huge slice of mud slipped over them from a height.
"A large portion of the site had been dug up and the structure for the basement had been put in place. On Sunday afternoon a large portion of the wall collapsed on the workers which killed one while another received minor injuries" said Rajvir Singh Chauhan, Station House Officer of sector 20 police station.
Raghunath Mandal, a native of West Bengal, was buried alive deep inside the loose mud and died.
"The body of the deceased was recovered and sent for the post mortem. We have not received any complaint into the matter while further investigations are underway" added Chauhan.
Such incidents highlights the negligence from the builder and contractor as proper safety measures are not adopted while the labourers working at construction sites are not provided with all the necessary safety equipments which results in such fatal incidents.
