5-yr-old girl raped by neighbour who visited her house daily

Noida: A 23-year-old man has been arrested by police for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl of his neighbourhood in Gijhore village in Sector 53 of Noida. Police said that the accused lured the girl on the pretext of playing a game with her.

According to the police, the accused has been identified as Ranjeet Lal from Kanpur and who works as a painter while the victim belongs to a labour class family and her parents work as labourers in Noida.

"The villagers heard the girl shouting for help and they reached the spot. When the neighbours intervened, the accused tried to flee from the area but was caught by the locals," said police officials.

"Accused Ranjeet lured the girl to a secluded place around 3 pm on Thursday from outside her house on the pretext of playing a game and then raped her. Her father had gone for work while her mother was at a neighbour's house for some household work," said Pankaj Pant, Station House Officer, Sector 24 police station.

"The incident occurred at around 3 pm and the police got the information at around 3.30 pm from the villagers," Pant said.

According to the girl's father, the accused was living in the area for the last one year and visited the victim's house on a daily basis. "The accused is like a young brother for me but he committed the shameful act work with my daughter. The police should take strict action against him," father added.

"Based on the complaint given by the girl's family, a case was registered against the accused under section 376 (punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal Code and sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act," the SHO said.
