4 cops among 15 held for extorting money from drivers in Noida

Noida: Fifteen persons including a chowki in-charge and few constables have been arrested by Noida police for allegedly extorting money from car drivers after honey trapping them. Police officials said that the accused were caught red handed while taking settlement money inside sector 44 police station.

According to police, those arrested were identified as chowki in-charge of sector 44 police post Sunil Sharma, constables Manoj Kumar, Ajayveer singh, Devendra Kumar, PCR drivers Vipin Singh, Durvesh Kumar, Rajesh, two women Pooja and Vinita and others.

Vaibhav Krishna, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Gautam Buddh Nagar said that the arrested women would allegedly ask for a lift and after getting into the car allege the driver of raping her and call police.

"The modus operandi was that a woman gang member would hitch a car ride and ask the car driver to drop her near a place where a PCR would be parked. The woman used to complaint the officials of PCR accusing the car driver of rape and they would take him to police post. The other gang members, who posed themselves as woman's relatives gather at the spot and they would threaten the car driver with police case and eventually offer to settle the matter in lieu of some money," said Krishna. The officer further said that they later used to let off the car driver after the settlement amount is received which remains between Rs 1 to 6 lakhs. "The chowki in-charge would call another gang member who posed as a reputed person of the area and the settlement was made. Police acted upon a complaint received and a trap was laid where the accused were caught red handed taking bribe of Rs 50 thousand," added Krishna.
