357 cases of crime against women and children in January; 254 arrested

New Delhi: As many as 357 cases of crime against women and children were reported in the first month of New Year in the city. The Delhi Police arrested 254 persons involved in this regard.

The Delhi Police data accessed by Millennium Post claimed that from January 1 to January 31 around 131 cases of rape were reported from the city in which 97 were solved and 109 predators were arrested. As many as 191 cases of molestation were registered in different police stations in which the cops were able to crack 91 cases and arrested more than 120 persons.

The data further claimed that 30 eve-teasing cases were reported in January in which 10 were solved and 15 had been arrested. In a crime against children, five persons were arrested in five cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. "All the five cases were solved," added

the data.

According to police, they have given emphasis on the popularization of 'Himmat Plus' and informing the Civic Agencies about dark patches in the city and directing BPOs to ensure the safety of lady employees while dropping them back to their respective residences, have also helped in curbing crime against women.

Street Crime

In robbery cases, as many as 187 cases were reported in which 122 cases were solved while 216 persons were arrested whereas in dacoity one case was reported in which five persons were nabbed. In Arms Act and NDPS Act cases, more than 160 cases were reported and over 200 persons had been nabbed. According to Delhi Police, to curb street crime, they do crime mapping and identify hot spots. "Identification and arrest of active criminals and a compendium of top criminals have been prepared, which is updated regularly," police said. Integrated patrolling by local police, PCR staff and Traffic police had also helped decrease the crime.
