33-yr-old man offering prayers at daughter's grave shot dead

NEW DELHI: A-33-year-old property dealer-cum-bakery owner was allegedly gunned down by armed assailants in North- east's Welcome area on Friday afternoon.

The deceased identified as Mahfooz Khan resided with his family near Mata Chowki in Welcome area. He was shot multiple times. Prima-face, police have suspected some old rivalry and monetary dispute with the assailants.

DCP, North East, Autul Thakur said "The motive of the murder has not been cleared yet. The deceased had some criminal history in his past. We are investigating the case in details."

Police said the incident was reported around 1:15 in a graveyard where Mahfooz had gone to offer tribute to his daughter.

Mahfooz's brother Salaman Khan said "He had gone first for Friday prayer in Mosque. After that, he went a graveyard nearby the mosque to pay his tribute. As he was offering tribute to his daughter, armed assailants entered the graveyard and shot him dead."

"We received information through a bystander and rushed to the spot. He was found lying in a pool of blood and brought him in nearby hospital. The doctors declared him brought dead. Six bullets hit his body, two bullets at stomach, two bullets in his head and two in chest respectively. Meanwhile another bullet has past brushing his hand." Khan added.

A case of murder has been registered against unknown at welcome police station. Police have seized the graveyard and the investigation has been taken up. Police official said that they are awaiting the autopsy report to ascertain the numbers of bullets injuries.

According to deceased family, Mahfooz Khan used to visit graveyard to pay tribute to his daughter each Friday.
