30,000 kg of plastic bags seized in Delhi

New Delhi: Concerned agencies of Delhi government have so far seized approximately 30,000 kg of plastic carry bags (less than 50 microns), issued 1650 challans and fines worth Rs 31,80,000 have been collected as Environmental Compensation so far. Environment Minister, Imran Hussain provided the above mentioned information, which has been compiled by the Environment Department after obtaining it from the NDMC, three MCDs, Delhi Cantonment Board and concerned Delhi government departments.
The Environment Department is consistently reviewing the implementation of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) directions given earlier. The NGT has directed that any person found in possession or using such plastic carry bags shall be liable to pay Environment Compensation of Rs. 5000/- per default and the carry bags shall be seized on the spot. Already, teams of officers from the Revenue Department, NDMC, three MCDs, DPCC and Delhi Cantonment Boardare implementing the said NGT directions.
