300 PCR vans patrolling Delhi's sensitive areas

New Delhi: Facing flack for failing to avert sporadic violence on the day of conviction of self-styled godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim in various nooks of the Capital, elaborate security arrangement was witnessed on Monday, the day when quantum of punishment was announced.
The law enforcement bodies, in order to maintain law and order situation, deployed more than 300 police control room (PCR) vehicles in sensitive parts the Capital city.
Police sources in PCR claimed that the vehicles are guarding the sensitive areas in Delhi.
As many as 50 special vehicles are keeping an eye on the bordering areas of six districts, including Shahdara, East, North East, Rohini, Outer and South West Delhi, which have been found sensitive and thus heavily guarded.
Police sources claimed that a tight vigil was on the crowded buses which were coming from the bordering areas.
"We are looking that no sloganeering related to the verdict took place inside the bus," said a police source, adding that they are also not allowing any group to form around the sensitive areas.
They are also checking that whether any bus carrying banner related to Dera Sacha Sauda chief.
"We are not taking any chances every place is been check properly if we spot any thing suspicious we are taking quick action," said a police official.
"With ensuring active presence at all bordering points, we have alerted all our staff. We are also conducting special patrolling with extra deployment at vulnerable points," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), PCR, Monika Bhardwaj.
The police officials maintained that Parakram vans, mandated for anti-terror and other operations warranting armed response which was launched by the city police in May was guarding their respective areas which include important markets, crowded places in the Capital.
The primary aim of deploying these 'Parakram' vans adding more to security and to instill a feeling of security and safety amongst citizens with their visibility and deterrence.
It also strengthens the existing deployment of the district police.
Areas like Vijay Chowk, Palika Bazar, IP marg, Saket Select City mall, Vasant Kunj mall, Pacific mall (Subhash Nagar), market/Mall complex (Netaji Subhash Place), Akshardham Temple, Lotus Temple, Jhandewalan are some places guarded by the police vans.
It may be noted that on August 25, the day when Gurmeet Ram Rahim was convicted by Special CBI, trains bogies were burnt and several incidents of DTC buses set on fire were reported from the city, minutes after the verdict came in.
The situation compelled the Delhi Police to issue orders to all Joint CPs, DCPs, ACPs and SHOs to patrol in their respective areas and prevent any untoward incident or ruckus by Ram Rahim followers in the city.
