28 jammers to be installed in Bhondsi jail

Gurugram: Authorities have plans to install 28 more cell phone jammers inside the Bhondsi jail premises, which will take the total number to 42.
Earlier, 14 jammers were installed by the authorities.
The move comes at a time when numerous cell phones have been seized from the jail's premises.
Last week, more than 100 phones were recovered, leading to severe criticism of the functioning of the jail, with even former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda raking up the issue.
Criminals from six different gangs are currently locked up in the city jail. These include Manjeet Mahal gang, Kaushal gang, Kishan gang, Hayatpuri gang, Sandeep Gadoli gang and Binder Gujjar gang.
Most of the members of these gangs have been jailed under serious offences, like extortion, burglaries and murder.
Members of these gangs also have various cases filed in other states, like Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Delhi.
Senior officials in Gurugram Police suspect that not only are these gangs are carrying out their illegal activities inside Bhondsi jail, there are also plans by certain criminals to eliminate members from rival gangs.
This possibility came to notice after several incidents of these gangsters using cell phones to extract extortion from the jail were reported.
Along with reports of cell phones being used inside the jail, incidents of violent scuffle between rival gang members have been often reported from Bhondsi jail.
