24-year-old factory worker charred to death

NEW DELHI: A 24-year-old factory worker charred to death and another injured after a fire broke out in a helmet manufacturing factory in North-West's Swaroop Nagar area on Tuesday night.

The incident was reported around 9 pm at plot no 81 gali no 7 in Swaroop Nagar.

The deceased has been identified as Devender(24), a resident of Shahjanpur UP while the injured, identified as Jitender (34), sustained 20 per cent burns. Duo used to work in a helmet factory, said a senior police officer said.

Twelve fire tenders simultaneously rushed on spot and it took 5-6 hours to douse it. The factory was running on rent.

"A call about the fire was received at 9.25 pm and 13 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The fire was brought under control by 12.10 am," a senior official from the Delhi Fire Service said.

The case of fire is said to be a short circuit. The investigation is underway. According to police, the rescue team found the body of Devender inside the factory.
