23-year-old gangster held for murder of rival

New Delhi: A 23-year-old man who, along with his associate, shot a person in the mouth was arrested from Naya Bazar area of Najafgarh on Thursday.

Police said on Thursday said that the accused Deepak called himself 'Dawood' and always carried illegal weapons on him.

During interrogation, cops found out that he is also wanted in a firing incident registered at Linepar police station in Haryana's Bahadurgarh.

"He had come into contact with the infamous 'Nandu Gang' of Najafgarh. In one case, the accused had fired at the house of his girlfriend's relative, who had objected to their courtship," police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse said that some members of Nandu gang had been murdered in last two-three years, and it was suspected that one Roshan provided information of their whereabouts to rival criminals.

"Hence, the accused and his associate decided to eliminate Roshan. On November 20, two of Deepak's associate entered a travel agency office, where Roshan was sitting with his friends," said the DCP.

He added that Deepak stood guard outside the office in Naya Bazar with a loaded country-made pistol, to ensure that Roshan is killed even if he escaped and ran out in the street.

Roshan died after being shot in the mouth and the incident was captured on CCTV camera in the area.

During interrogation, Deepak confessed to the crime and his version corroborated that of the CCTV footage.

A joint team of Special Staff (Dwarka) Inspector Naveen Kumar and Najafgarh SHO Inspector Sunil Kumar arrested Deepak.
