23 held in raids on fake Noida call centres

Noida: In a major crack down on fake call centers in the city, Gautam Buddh Nagar police, on Thursday, raided eight different call centers and arrested 23 persons after they were found duping foreign people on pretext of offering fake technical support for Microsoft and other companies.

According to police, the raids were conducted in four different police station areas.

"Four fake call centers were busted by sector-20 police station, two in Sector-58 police station area, and one each in Phase-3 and Ecotech-III," said Ajay Pal Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police, Gautam Buddh Nagar.

The officer said that the modus operandi behind the working of all these call centers was found to be same.

"The gang would target foreign people after fetching IP address for computers from other countries such as Australia, Canada, California, USA and others. They would flash a pop-up on their mobile phones, computer or tablet that the person has a virus and force them to get technical support.

"The victims would then have to call a particular number for help. On calling the number, the gang members would pose as software company employees and get money transferred to different accounts on pretext of providing help," said Singh.
