20-day-old dies after pig mauls her

NEW DELHI: In a shocking incident, a 20-day-old girl died after she was bitten severely by a pet pig in south Delhi.

The incident was reported on Friday afternoon from south Delhi's Fatehpur Beri area. The infant girl was rushed to the hospital, but succumbed to her injuries.
According to police sources, the incident took place when the baby's mother was breast feeding the little girl, named Pushpa.
Unfortunately, the woman failed to notice the advances of a pig that was straying nearby. The pig bit the baby on the face and dragged her away.
When the woman raised an alarm, people nearby gathered to save the girl from the grip of the animal.
However, by the time the infant girl could be rescued, the pig had already made deep bite marks on her head and face.
Bleeding profusely, the baby girl was immediately rushed to the hospital where she died during treatment.
Both parents of the girl are labourers and residents of Sanjay colony in Bhati Mines. The incident sent the parents as well as neighbours in a state of shock.
"It is a tragic case. We have filed an FIR under sections 289/304 (A) of the IPC. She was attacked by a pet pig. We are investigating who owns it," said DCP South Chinmoy Biswal.
In June 2014, a two-month-old baby girl was mauled to death by a stray dog in central Delhi's Nabi Karim. The girl was sleeping and alone at her first floor home when the dog attacked her.
