2 posing as accident victims snatch woman's chain, held

New Delhi: A 60-year-old woman's chain was snatched after she went to help two men who posed themselves as accident victims in North East Delhi's Jyoti Nagar. Police have arrested two junk dealers from Karawal Nagar Pusta road.

Both of the accused were identified as Nazim (32) and Akram (51). They are junk dealers by profession and involved in more than 10 criminal cases.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East) Ved Prakash Surya said that on the intervening night of September 28-29, they laid a trap near Kali Ghata road, main Karawal Nagar Pusta road. They were directed to stop but after seeing the police party, they tried to escape. One country-made pistol and three live cartridges along with white motorcycle were recovered from them.

The victim identified as Prakashi lives with her family in Jyoti Nagar area. The incident was reported on September 28. At around 2.30 PM the victim with her sister Nanki was sitting on the cot outside her home.

"Two men approached me one was thin aged in between 30-32 years and having a moustache. He had an injury on his hand. He was wearing a check shirt," complainant told the police. They have parked their motorcycle on another street.

The complainant told police that the other person was fat and aged in between 40-45 years. He was wearing a blue t-shirt. Both of them sat on the cement slab in front of complainant's house.

"Both of them told me that they met with an accident and received injuries. They asked me for Turmeric powder," complainant further said.

Later, Prakashi gave them the powder. The thin person put turmeric powder on one of his fingers. After that, both of them sat near the house. They were talking on their phones.

Around 3:15 pm on the pretext of touching complainant's feet, both accused pushed the 60-year-old and snatched the woman's gold chain and fled on their bike. The complainant was not able to note down the vehicle number.
