2 labourers suffocate to death in 40-ft deep borewell in Noida
Noida: Two construction labourers were suffocated to death inside a 40-feet deep bore well in sector 99 area of Noida on Thursday evening. Police have booked two supervisors of the construction company in connection with the incident.
According to police, the incident occurred around 4:30 pm at a park near Supreme towers in sector 99 area of Noida where the bore well was being digged at the basement of a mobile tower.
"Nearly five labourers were working at the spot when Gautam (20), a labourer from Bihar, had entered into the bore well for digging purpose" said police officials.
Prashant Kapil, Station House Officer (SHO) of Sector 39 police station in Noida told Millennium Post that soon after Gautam stopped responding to the calls made by other labourers, Ajaypal, a labourer from Lakhimpur Khiri, entered the bore well for his
"Gautam had entered the bore well and fell unconscious. Soon after he stopped responding, Ajaypal entered the bore well for his rescue but he also fainted inside. The other labourers immediately raised an alarm and police teams were informed. We immediately reached the spot and fire officials were also called. The rescue operation was started and a fire fighter along with safety equipment and oxygen cylinder went inside the bore well. Both the labourers were pulled out and were taken to nearby hospital where doctors declared them dead on arrival. The bodies were sent for post mortem and their family members were informed," added Kapil.
The officer further said that the construction work was being carried out by PS construction company while two supervisors of the company have been booked in connection with the case.
"Upon sustained investigations into the case, sheer negligence from the construction supervisors was highlighted. It came to light that both the labourers had entered into the bore well without any safety equipment which resulted in the fatal incident."
"We have received complaint from Ajaypal's cousin brother, based on which we have booked two construction supervisors of the company, identified as Dulichand and Ashok Kumar, under IPC section 304 A (causing death by negligence). We are yet to make any arrested while further investigations into the case are underway," added Kapil.
