2 killed, 2 hurt in road mishap at Noida-Greater Noida e-way

Noida: Two persons including a mechanic and driver of a truck were killed while two others were critically injured after a speeding truck coming from behind rammed into the stationary truck which broke down and was being repaired near sector 132 at Noida-Greater Noida Expresway on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

According to police, the incident occurred around 12:30 am when a truck which was moving towards Noida from Parichowk broke down near sector 132 under expressway police station jurisdiction.

"The driver of truck, identified as Riyaz, and helper Mohammad Arshad, both natives of Etawah district, had parked their truck along roadside after it got broke down. They had called a mechanic, Vedpal, a native of Delhi, to get it fixed," said Bhuvnesh Kumar, Station House officer of Expresway police station.

The officer further said that a dumper truck bearing registration number HR 38 R 5587, which was being driven by Naresh, a native of Firozabad, rammed into the stationary truck from behind.

"The driver of the dumper failed to notice the stationary truck and rammed into it from behind. A passerby conveyed information to police and a team rushed to the spot. The intensity of the collision was such that police had to use cutters and it took us nearly two hours to pull out the driver from the mangled vehicle. All the injured were taken to nearby Jaypee hospital where doctors declared Vedpal and Riyaz dead on arrival while Naresh and Mohammad Arshad have been admitted to Jaypee hospital for treatment," added Kumar.

Meanwhile police have registered a case into the matter against the dumper driver.

"Based on the complaint received from helper Mohammad Arshad's family, an FIR under section 279, 338 and 304-A has been registered against the dumper driver Naresh, police said.
