2 killed, 1 injured after truck rams into car in South Delhi

New Delhi: Two persons died and a woman was critically injured after their Honda City car was hit by a negligently driven truck in South Delhi's South Extension area on Sunday.

Police said the accused driver fled the spot after the incident.

The speeding truck allegedly rammed into a divider and veered into the opposite carriageway before hitting two cars in south Delhi.

Police identified the deceased as Ravi Kumar (driver) Dalip Dutta whereas his wife Seema Dutta (49) was injured in the accident and currently receiving treatment, police said.

According to police, the truck was coming from Safdarjung side. The accident occurred when the vehicle reached an underpass at South Extension, where it hit the divider and landed on the opposite carriageway. It then allegedly hit two cars.

The three persons travelling in one of the cars that were hit by the truck were rushed to a Trauma Centre where Ravi Kumar and Dalip Dutta were declared brought dead, police said.

One of the occupants in another car told police that they were returning from a wedding function in Peeragarhi area.

"When we reached the AIIMS underpass when the incident took place. The truck fell on their car and then hit Honda City," the complainant told the police.

Seema Dutta, who suffered serious injuries, remained critical and is undergoing treatment, he said. The deceased lived in Lajpat Nagar area and worked as property dealer. Police said that a case under sections 279,337 and 304 A registered in Kotla Mubarakpur police station.

"We are searching for the accused truck driver in the case and there is also the possibility that he might be injured," police said. Sources said that searches are going on in the nearby hospital to check whether driver came there for treatment.

Man injured in Dwarka

In another incident, a 28-year-old man was grievously injured after his bike was allegedly hit by an overspeeding car in Dwarka on Sunday morning. The victim, identified as Amit Singh, works at a private firm here. Singh hails from Kangra in Himachal Pradesh and resides here in Dwarka Mor with his family, they said.

The incident took place at Lovely Chowk when an overspeeding sports utility vehicle hit a road-divider, and then broke through a park wall, a senior police officer said.

The car had also hit a bike, leaving its rider seriously injured, he said, The injured was rushed to a nearby hospital where he is undergoing treatment and is said to be out of danger, he said.

The accused fled the spot soon after the accident, the officer said, adding the offending vehicle has been seized.
