2 held after gun battle

New Delhi: After a gun battle in North West Delhi, Delhi Police arrested a criminal involved in about 12 heinous cases.

The investigating agency said that the accused was injured in the case and one of his female accomplices was also nabbed. Police identified the accused as Shrikant (34) and his associate Pooja (20).

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West) Vijayanta Arya said that in the intervening night of 12-13 June, while police staff was patrolling in the area of Subhash Place, sub-inspector Himanshu and head constable Sumit came across one public person who stated that Shrikant had robbed his white Bullet Enfield at gunpoint.

Later on, another complainant also met police team and complained that a motorcycle rider on a white motorcycle along with a girl on the pillion had robbed his two gold chains.

"The two policemen got a clue that said motorcycle has gone towards Ring road. The accused was chased and intercepted by policemen who warned them to stop. On this Shrikant fired on the police personnel with his weapon with the help of his female associate," added DCP Arya.

She further added that the police personnel took cover fire behind their motorcycle and managed to save themselves. Police personnel warned the accused to not take the law into their hands and fired one round in the air. After this, accused Shrikant fired another round at police personnel.

"Thereafter HC Sumit fired two rounds towards accused in retaliation. The accused got injured and tried to run away. Later he was apprehended," police said adding that he was shifted to hospital. While his female accomplice managed to escape but later arrested.
