2 days after clashes, uneasy calm prevails

The politics of trepidation is real and communicable, and has a deep impact. It is clearly identifiable and tangible, leaving a lasting imprint.

Two days after the clash between student groups with contrary ideologies, tension continued to prevail in Delhi University's North Campus on Friday. In the wake of the protests at North Campus, several colleges are also closed on account of a holiday. However, the message of dissent has spread like wild fire. As a result, security was beefed up in the entire campus.

A large number of police personnel were seen in and around the campus, spreading a sense of intimidation among a majority of students. As a result, no protests were seen anywhere in the campus. Students were only seen roaming around the Campus throughout the day, leaving the police authorities seemingly confused. A senior woman police official, who did not wish to be named, said: "As the rumours of protests are spreading throughout the Campus, we are stepping up security as a precautionary measure. Also, a barricade-based cordon has been established inside the premises of the Arts Faculty Park."

Students with anxious faces, who were watchful of the police activities, were seen roaming in the park. "Retaliation by ABVP members is a possibility, but we want a peaceful and calm environment so that we can continue our studies and bury the entire episode," said a second year student at the University. Most of the students refrained from sharing their views and maintained a safe distance from outsiders.

"Anything can happen any time and this place has been infamous now. Earlier, it used to be a Fancy Park, but after the clash between ABVP and Leftists, it has become a place for protest," said a security official.

Meanwhile, the tension in the Campus was palpable, with senior police officials seen giving instructions to their personnel, explaining them the 'do's and don'ts and how to behave with the media persons in case of protests.
