16-year-old gang-raped by three in Shalimar Bagh

NEW DELHI: As the entire nation observed in solidarity five years of the December 16 gang-rape incident, history repeated itself on Saturday in north west Delhi's Shalimar Bagh area where a 16-year-old girl was gang-raped by three men, said Delhi Police, adding that a manhunt has been launched to nab the accused.
According to police, the incident was reported on Saturday, and a case under section 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 363 (punishment for kidnapping), 376D (gang-rape) has been registered in Shalimar Bagh police station.
On Saturday evening, Deputy Commissioner of Police and Delhi Police PRO Madhur Verma stated that the incident of sexual assault on the 16-year-old girl by three men was reported at Shalimar Bagh police station and an investigation is being conducted.
"Teams under DCP North West are trying to apprehend the accused persons," said Verma.
Police sources said that at the time of the incident, the victim was sitting in a park with a male companion, when the three accused approached and began an argument with the two. The argument got out of hand and the accused began harassing the girl and her companion.
They then beat up the man and went on to rape the girl, subsequently threatening her with dire consequences if she reported the incident to anyone. The girl reportedly lives in a slum in north west Delhi and works as a maid in the area.
"We are working on some clues. Soon the accused will be arrested," said a police official on Sunday.
