150 shanties gutted in Nathupur slums fire
Gurugram: In less than two months, another major fire was reported at Nathupur slums. Monday proved to be to yet another disastrous day for slum dwellers in Gurugram as yet another fire incident left more than 150 shanties gutted. The freak accident occurred at an area that is just a few metres away from the headquarters of top multinational companies.
Not only did this tragic mishap led hundreds of people homeless, it also resulted in them losing all their identity proofs. Luckily, there was not any casualty. The fire was reported at 9:45 am and more than 12 fire tenders were rushed to control the situation.
Worried over the issue of repetition of these incidents, the public authorities have served strict warnings to the landowners. The vacant area of the urban village landlords gets used for setting up of shanties. The district authorities have also begun taking strict against illegal encroachments in the public area. "It is worrying that in quick succession the fire has been reported from the area. The proactiveness by the officials has resulted in no casualties being reported. Needless to say, the residents must be careful to make sure that no major fires are being reported," said a senior official from Gurugram fire department.
Last year, two minors had died in separate fires in Wazirabad and Tigra area, in which 200 slums were gutted.
