15 hospitals registered under clinical establishment Act

Gurugram: Fifteen hospitals including the top multispeciality private hospitals have got themselves registered under the clinical establishment act of 2014. The 300 medical institutions under 50 hospitals has still left a challenge for the district administration to get most of the hospitals registered under this act.

A deadline of January 24 has been set for all the hospitals to be registered. We are committed to registering all the medical institutions under this act.

This act is bound to bring in more transparency. As of now, fifteen hospitals that includes four large private hospitals have registered themselves in the act," said Dr BK Rajoura, Chief Medical Officer Gurugram health department.

For long while public healthcare system continues to struggle with inadequate infrastructure, the private healthcare system in the face of credibility crisis.

In the past, various inspections have been undertaken by the food and drugs department of the Haryana government not only in small but also in large super- speciality hospitals where various lapses have been found.

Notwithstanding the controversies surrounding top hospitals of Gurugram, another damming report was reported in the recent RTI where over 224 private clinics in the Gurugram district were being operated by quacks. Taking cognisance of the issue, the Haryana government wishes to bring in the clinical establishment act.

The expression of anger against the private healthcare system in the city is not a recent phenomenon. However, deaths and exploitation of minor patients in quick succession, in some of the private hospitals, have resulted in a group of citizens to demand action against erring hospitals. The act tries to bring in more transparency in the hospitals of Gurugram.

According to senior government officials, the act once implemented will make the doctors more accountable to patients.
