111 trees transplanted to different locations at DTU

NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal witnessed the transplantation of a tree at Delhi Technological University on Saturday, accompanied by the Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

While witnessing the whole transplantation mechanism, Kejriwal said that no trees were cut down for new construction work to be done in the DTU. 111 trees were transplanted to some other spots in the campus itself.

Experts say that the transplanted trees have a good and sustained life cycle. According to the notified rules by the Delhi government, no trees are allowed to be cut for any construction, but they should be transplanted at an 80 percent survival rate. Observing the methodology behind tree transplantation has assured the sustenance of trees for a long time. This is an established way to protect the trees and help keep the environment clean.

On Saturday, the Chief Minister was informed by experts about how age-old trees can be uprooted for the transplant procedure. For this, the roots of the trees are excavated first, after which they are sorted and given soil and manure. The tree is transplanted after that and taken elsewhere, where it is planted by digging.

The CM reached the spot of the plantation and watered the tree after the transplantation. He was keen to witness the whole transplantation procedure and was inquisitive to know whether transplantation of age-old trees like peepal is possible.
