10 kg heroin worth Rs 40 crore seized, 3 drug traffickers held

New Delhi: Special Cell of Delhi Police arrested three drug traffickers from North West Delhi's Shalimar Village area and seized 10 kilograms of heroin worth more than Rs 40 crore in international market recovered.

The investigators said that the contraband was brought from Manipur and was being supplied in different parts.

Police identified the accused as Mohammad Shakil Ahmed Chesam, Subhankar Haldar and Mohammad Riyaz Khan. One SUV with an inbuilt secret cavity which was being used in transporting the drugs has also been seized.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said that they were working on information about an interstate narcotic drug cartel active in states of Manipur, West Bengal, UP, Delhi and Bihar.

"Members of this cartel are involved in the supply of high-grade heroin in Bengal, Bihar, UP and Delhi and NCR," said DCP Yadav.

On September 20, the three accused were nabbed near DA Block in Shalimar Village inside a car. Heroin was recovered from the secret cavity made in the back seat of the Scorpio.

There are certain areas/blocks in Manipur, especially Naxal affected areas around Saikul and Thoubal and areas along with International boundaries where drug peddlers cultivate opium illegally and process it into a pure form of heroin and transport the drugs to various parts of

India.

DCP special cell said that Shakil Ahmad used to supply heroin to various persons in different states after procuring it from Ali Hasan, resident of Manipur.

Ahmad also procured heroin from one Hashim, resident of Manipur. He supplied heroin to various persons. He used to hide packets of heroin in secret cavities and sometimes between cloths. Haldar works as a carrier of one Sapan Haldar.

Delhi Police in their press statement said that special cell had busted many narcotic drug cartels in the past by arresting several drug suppliers and by recovering huge consignments of high-grade heroin.

Northern Range of the special cell has busted several such cartels in the recent past and recovered more than 187 kgs of high-grade heroin.
