1 dead, 3 injured in road accident

New Delhi: On the way to Murthal, a 19-year-old youth died and three others suffered injuries after a car they were travelling hit a divider in North Delhi's Sarai Rohilla area in the early hours of Wednesday.

Police claimed that it appears that they were over-speeding and chances of drunken and driving were there. Police identified deceased as Shivam Shankar, a first-year student of Delhi Universities School of open learning, while the injured have been identified Kashish(18), Nitin(18), both residents of Chandigarh, and Arensh Shankar, a resident of Ragerpura.

According to investigating agency, in Wednesday morning around 3.03 am, Sarai Rohilla police station received PCR call claiming that a car had turn turtled near Gurudwara.

A team from Sarai Rohilla police station reached the spot and rushed the four to hospital.

Police said that Shivam was declared brought dead on arrival while Kashish and Nitin have been kept under observation. Arensh was discharged after primary medication.

"They, after attending a wedding programme in Karol Bagh, were going to Murthal when the vehicle hit the divider and turned down," said Delhi Police press statement.

Shivam was behind the wheels and he was driving at a very high speed.

A case under section 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way), 337(Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304 A (Causing death by negligence) of the Indian penal code has been registered at Sarai Rohilla police

station.

Further investigation is underway. Police said that the two who are under observation shall be discharged tomorrow and their statements would be recorded.
