The match started on a fast pitched note with Delhi dominating and holding the ball well in midfield.

The magicians were devoid of much space to work their way through as they lied much in their defense. Delhi got their opening goal in the 27th minute when Rupinder Pal Singh scored from a penalty corner, dragging the ball towards top hand corner. Mumbai pressed hard from there on, hovering around Delhi’s half but a resilient defense saw the threats checked. Mumbai missed some chances before half-time with some attacking shots missing the post. Goalkeeper Jacobi Nicholas made a fine save off Mumbai’s Sarvanjeet Singh who dragged a zipping shot as Nicholas made a timely dive to block the ball with his pads. Delhi entered half-time with a 1-0 lead.

After the break South Africa’s field specialist Norris Jones Lloyd extended Delhi’s lead in the 48th minute hitting a powerful shot through the right of Mumbai’s goalkeeper PR Sreejesh who was kept standing as the ball whistled past him. Two minutes later Mumbai on the counter attack got a penalty corner as they pulled a goal back when India outcast Sandeep Singh scored from the position. Delhi enjoyed bulk of possession through-out as Mumbai pressed hard towards the dying minutes. But a shocking penalty stroke from Sandeep Singh who claimed it for a goal which the referee denied to see Delhi WaveRiders run away with all five points as Mumbai settled for one.
