Delhi Walk Festival concludes with Sisodia’s trip to Ghalib’s Shahjahanabad

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Sunday morning formally concluded the Delhi Walk Festival by making a trip to Mirza Ghalib’s Shahjahanabad in Old Delhi.

Titled ‘Mirza Ghalib’s Shahjahanabad: Purani Dilli as the poet’s muse’, the trip was conducted by the Delhi Government in collaboration with Delhi By Foot and Delhi I love You walking tour groups.

“We will explore ways in which this effort can be continued and how we can support in executing and planning it,” said Sisodia.

The walk which began at 8.30 am was the last leg of the Delhi Walk Festival which has been underway since November 19 for heritage enthusiasts and the general public.

Sisodia sampled some snacks and enjoyed a cup of tea with the locals there as he walked through the historical by-lanes of the area.

The earlier walks have spanned many spots across the capital including Yamuna Walk, Nature Photography in the Aravalis, among others.

The idea of this project has been to re-introduce Dellhi and its old world charm, heritage and culture and to the city denizens like never before.

Armed with comfortable walking shoes, sunglasses, a bottle of water and some sunscreen, excited participants explored city areas like never before.

On Sunday, some of Ghalib’s finest poetry and letters were recited for the participants as they explored Ghalib’s Puraani Dilli, the Haveli where he lived and heard quirky anecdotes regarding the celebrated poet in the alleys of Shahjahanabad.

In this walk through time, the participants also witnessed the gradual decay of the Old Delhi areas that Ghalib witnessed after the Mutiny of 1857.
