Delhi Police hand over FBI report on Sunanda’s viscera samples to docs

Delhi Police have handed over the FBI report on Sunanda Pushkar’s viscera samples to a medical board which is expected to submit a comprehensive report to the police based on its analysis in 14 days.

“Analysis of the FBI report will take time. The medical board entrusted with its analysis is expected to come up with a comprehensive report based on its analysis in 14 days, following which further legal action shall follow,” said a senior police official on Friday.

Earlier, Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi had refused to share the details of the report in public unless it is submitted in a court of law.

The report, received by the police via e-mail from Washington DC-based FBI lab, suggests that radiation levels in viscera samples of Sunanda were within the standard safety norms, virtually ruling out the possibility of any variant of radioactive element polonium to be the cause of Sunanda’s death.

Sources in the police also said that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to probe the case is likely to summon senior Congress leader and Sunanda’s husband Shashi Tharoor soon for another round of questioning and they may seek permission from the court to conduct a polygraph test on him. The investigators have so far conducted polygraph (lie detection) test on six persons, all prime witnesses in the case, including Tharoors’ domestic help Narayan Singh, driver Bajrangi and Sanjay Dewan, a close friend of the couple.

Tharoor was not subjected to the test but was questioned thrice in the case, police sources said. Sunanda (52) was found dead in a five-star hotel suite here on January 17 last year, a day after she was involved in a spat with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar on Twitter over the latter’s alleged affair with Tharoor.
