Delhi-NCR aces list of top job generating cities: Survey

Mumbai's share in generating new jobs sharply plummeted while Delhi-NCR has catapulted to the top slot, an industry survey has revealed.
New jobs generation in the country's commercial capital fell sharply by 28 percent during the first quarter of fiscal 2013-14 against the corresponding period last year, said 'Job Trends Across Cities & Sector', a study conducted by the Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry (Assocham) released
here on Tuesday.

‘Mumbai's share in generating total number of new jobs across India fell from over 14 per cent last year to just around 10 per cent,’ Assocham secretary general D S Rawat said while releasing the study.
In contrast, Delhi-NCR remained numero uno in new job generation with a maximum share of over 27 per cent as compared to other cities, Rawat said.
Among other important cities, Kolkata notched an increase of 19 percent while Bangalore recorded seven percent increase in new
jobs creation.

Chennai also took a blow of over 21 percent - from 10,200 jobs last year to just around 8,000 this year, while Hyderabad has also been affected with a dip of five percent in the year-on-year growth of new jobs.

Among the Tier 2 cities, Lucknow notched an impressive 58 percent growth, Kanpur (53 percent), Kochi (45), Nagpur (27), Gandhinagar (17) and Jaipur (16).
But, other Tier 2 cities like Surat fell by 38 percent, Indore (23) and Bhopal (12) in new jobs creation.
