Delhi Metro cancels 10th anniversary celebration

Delhi Metro cancelled its Sunday programme to commemorate completion of 10 years of operations on Monday, in consideration of the protests over the gangrape incident.

Union urban development minister Kamal Nath and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit were to take part in the programme scheduled for Monday morning. However, Delhi Metro spokesman Anuj Dayal said ‘in view of the sensitive nature of the current developments in the city, the formal function to commemorate the completion of 10 years of Metro operations has been postponed till further notice.’

The induction of eight-coach trains will, howwever, take place as scheduled. Other activities planned to commemorate the occasion involving the public such as exhibitions, quiz contests, sale of commemorative smart cards will go on as scheduled during the Metro Operations Week.
