Delhi-Lahore bus halted at Wagah

The Dosti bus service connecting Delhi and Lahore, has been restricted to Wagah border by Pakistan for the first time since the bus link with India was launched in 1999. Increased terror threats were cited by Pakistan for the decision. As a result, passengers will now have to change buses at Wagah border on both directions and will not be able to travel in a single bus between the two countries.

According to agency reports, India has hoped that temporary aberrations in the Delhi-Lahore bus service will be sorted out. Reacting to the development, External Affairs Ministry spokesman Syed Akbaruddin said, the Dosti bus service was started at the initiative of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and will ply in accordance with their vision.

The spokesman said, if there are security concerns that Pakistan is expressing on its side, it is for them to decide what is in their best interest in terms of security.
