Delhi govt rejects 58 security agencies’ licence, withholds 321

Checking backgrounds of security guards you are planning to hire from a licensed security agency in the city will now, just be a click away. In a major scrutiny drill, the home department on Saturday granted license to 571 security agencies in the city and directed them to file online details of all the security guards hired by them. The department also rejected 58 security agencies and withheld licenses of 321 others due to incomplete documents.

“So far, only 53 security agencies have filled in information in respect to 6,259 guards. We have directed all the licensed security agencies to file online details of all security guards working with them,” said Arvind Ray, principal secretary home of Delhi government. “After completion of the exercise, we would have the database of approximately 65,000 to 70,000 security guards working in the city,” he added. The scrutiny of the security agencies and the guards employed with them was started after some instances of crime involving the security guards came to light.

“The entire details of licensed security agencies and the guards engaged by them will be put online on our website for free access to any desired person,” said spokesperson of Delhi government. He further added that the department would be able to directly monitor these security agencies effectively once the database in created. Besides, the department will also recruit 7,200 home guards to serve as auxiliary to the police and assist him in maintaining internal security.

“These home guards will also be utilized to assist the community in any kind of emergency like air raid, fire, flood, epidemics, nursing, first aid etc,” said Ray.
