Delhi govt blames migrants for rising crimes

Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung’s government has blamed the rising number of migrants in the city for increase in crime rates. “The population is increasing in the city so is the crime,” said Arvind Ray, Principal Secretary (Home) on Thursday, when confronted on the massive increase of crimes against women in Delhi during President’s rule. Ray further said that after Nirbhaya gang-rape cum murder registration of cases has gone up. According to Union Ministry of Home Affairs, on an average 40 cases of crimes against women, including at least four rape cases, are registered everyday in Delhi. Ray was sharing the information with the media with regard to Department of Home under which Delhi Fire Service, Delhi Police, security agencies, jail administration and religious committees are functioning.
