Delhi goes fusion way

An evening of fusion, of mixed flavours, an amalgamation of varied spirits of India — that is what you can expect at are going to get at the Vriddhi, a show that has been organised by the Kuchipudi Dance Academy.

The idea of the festival is to put different influences under one roof, or as they are calling it — One stage for them all.

The festival will bring together an amalgamation of two varied music styles — Carnatic and contemporary. The evening will have performances by Carnatic classical musician Sudha Raghuraman and flautist G. Raghuraman who will collaborate folk-rock band Advaita. The festival will begin with tabla maestro Vishal Nagar jamming with jazz pianist Terry McCaw.

‘The aim of the festival is to bridge the gap between different generations of audience and present to them a musical evening with the collaboration of contemporary and traditional music form with both of them getting equal amount of time and importance. We are also looking at commercialising the traditional dance form and pulling in the crowd that has a mixture of people from different generation,’ said organiser Vedabrata Rao.

The evening will also see solo performances by Advaita as well as by Carnatic musician Sudha and G. Raghuraman alongwith the collaboration.

But how do two diamterically opoosite music forms fuse? ‘Music is universal. It has the same note, same feel and same sound, only the name differs. Apart from that, Indian music is so rich that it can easily fuse with other forms,’  said Sudha Raghuraman.

The organisers and artistes are trying to present the two forms in a capsule manner and trying their best to reach out to  the younger generation .

‘The show will have a collaboration of two spices which will be a new thing. Hopefully, the audience will appreciate the gelding of spices and the exchange between the two styles,’ said  Ujjwal Nagar of Advaita.

‘The sweet melody of Carnatic music form and the  funky beat of contemporary music is sure to woo the audience. We have seen Indian classical at its peak and we have seen Contemporary at its best and now it’s time for us to have the mingling of the best of both worlds,’ he added.

In case you have doubts about how it is all going to shape out, head to MG Road and check out for yourself.
