Delhi Dynamos rally to hold Mumbai City FC 3-3

Delhi Dynamos continued their slew of splitting points as they earned their third consecutive draw with the game against Mumbai City FC ending on 3-3 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Tuesday.

It was Sony Norde for Mumbai City FC who shone the brightest in his comeback match and also got his name on the scoresheet following some brilliant skill display. Apart from Norde, it was Vadocz who put in a brace for Mumbai. From Delhi, Gadze, Badji and Marcelinho made it to the scoresheet.The first half began with Dynamos showing some bright play with Malouda as their centre. Malouda, who hadn’t started in their previous game against Northeast United, looked to be the anchor of every Delhi move.

In the 16th minute, Mumbai showed some good movement in the Delhi half and earned the first corner of the game. Anwar Ali, eventually, headed the corner straight into the hands of Delhi goalkeeper, Poirei.

With Norde, Vadocz and Costa combining, Mumbai displayed some wonderful crossing and passing.

In the 32nd minute, Costa played toyed with Delhi defenders and through-passed towards Vadocz on the left, who against a stoic Delhi defence, drove the ball past Poirei.

The goal seemed to have pumped up Mumbai even more as they surged forward frustrating Delhi and Norde was fouled by Niasse amidst that. In the 39th minute, Vadocz scored a brace and doubled Mumbai tally as he headed in the rebound from Norde’s free kick.

The visitors went in the half time with a comfortable 2-0 lead and as the second half started, coach Zambrotta answered with substituted Lewis with Rupert Nongrum in the midfield.Delhi looked a side with renewed energy as they surged forward taking Mumbai head on. In the 52nd minute, Delhi display wonderful ball play as Malouda played a dummy to let the ball towards Marcelinho who ran ahead to pass it off to Gadze in the centre who put the ball in.

Despite Delhi’s comeback, Mumbai kept surging ahead with Norde being their prime man. In the 60th minute, Norde displaying some excellent skills on the left beating three defenders to pass the ball to Defederico who struck the ball over.Mumbai made their first change in the form on Cafu getting his first game. Following Mumbai’s change, Zambrotta brought in an attacking change by replacing Moura with Badara Badji.

Subsequently, in the 69th minute, it was Mumbai who roared back as their man of the night, Sony Norde danced in the Delhi half past three defenders to shortly pass off to Cafu who put the ball back for him and he shot the ball in.

As Mumbai seemed to be calming down the game, Delhi drilled themselves back in the game with the Senegalese, Badji making the difference. In the 76th minute, it was Gadze who picked up the assist as he left off a through pass towards Badji who netted it.Soon in the 80th minute, Delhi was awarded a controversial penalty for a foul on Gerson, and Marcelinho calmly struck the penalty on the left in the 82nd minute.

Mumbai will next play FC Goa at home on October 21 while Delhi will face Atletico de Kolkata on Oct 22 away from home.
