Delhi cop commits suicide

A 49-year-old Delhi police head constable committed suicide by shooting  himself with his service revolver inside the premises of a police station in the city on Sunday evening. Tejpal, resident of Kheri Asra village of Jhajjar district in Haryana, shot himself between 3 pm and 4.15 pm inside his rest room in the premises of west Delhi’s Kanjhawala police station. ‘Tejpal, who was inducted in Delhi police in 1984, was transferred to Kanjhawala police station in June 2011,’ said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Md. Akhtar Rizvi. The officer informed that Tejpal was deputed on day shift (between 8 am to 8 pm ) on Sunday. ‘Tejpal had received an accident call around 9.15 am and went to the spot. He came back to the police station around 3 pm and went inside his rest room where he shot himself. But, no one in the police station heard any bullet shot,’ said a police officer. ‘A police constable contacted him on his phone around 4:15 pm to sent him for next accident call. But, after repeated attempts Tejpal did not pick his phone. When a constable was sent to his room, he found Tejpal lying in a pool of blood,’ said the officer. Tejpal, who had bored right temple injury, is survived by his wife, his two sons and a daughter. ‘A suicide note was recovered from Tejpal’s possession in which he had mentioned personal reason behind his suicide,’ said Rizvi. Rizvi, however, did not read out Tejpal’s exact words written in his suicide note. Rizvi only said that he was stressed with some familiar issue. ‘There was no any official stress behind Tejpal’s suicide,’ said Rizvi. ‘His family members has been informed regarding the incident and police is yet confirm the familiar reason which led Tejpal to take such an extreme step,’ said the officer.
