Delhi BJP urges LG Jung to declare dengue, chikungunya as ‘epidemics’

Delhi BJP on Wednesday urged Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung to declare chikungunya and dengue as “epidemics” and instructions be given out to all the concerned government agencies to act on war footing to combat the menace. The BJP has also announced to observe “sanitation fortnight” from September 17 (birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi) to October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

“LG must declare chikungunya and dengue as ‘epidemic’ for the city to fight the menace in the best possible way. Delhi Chief Minister and health minister should be ‘show caused’ on their failure to handle the situation and abandoning the city,” said Vijender Gupta, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly in a letter written to Delhi LG Jung. In the letter, Gupta took strong exception to the fact that majority of ministers are not present in the city during such a time of crisis.

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay has constituted a task force under South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri to supervise sanitation in the city. “We will observe sanitation fortnight from the birthday of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on October 2,” he announced.

He also released a list of his party office bearers to help the public to fight the menace. He also announced to organise blood donation camps for dengue and chikungunya patients on the PM’s birthday – ‘Sewa Diwas’.
