Delhi BJP leaders ‘insecure’ over Bedi as CM candidate

According to sources, senior Delhi BJP leaders and former MLAs are lobbying hard not to declare Kiran Bedi as BJP’s chief ministerial candidate but settle her with a post of minister.

The sense of ‘insecurity’ is running deep among the BJP cadres right from chief minister hopefuls to ticket seekers as party is inducting several ‘outsiders’ with promise of tickets and posts if govenment formed.

Kiran Bedi as chief minister is becoming tough to swallow for CM hopefuls in state BJP as Delhi BJP
president Satish Upadhyay himself is working hard to justify it by saying , ‘Jo Mathe pe likha hai vo koi kat nahi sakta’ (Nobody can erase what is destined.). So is the view of his ‘political mentor’ Vijay Goel who says, ‘Koshish Karne me burai kya hai (what is harm in making efforts). Goel, the former Delhi BJP president who lost the race of chief ministerial candidates to  Harsh Vardhan in 2013 Delhi assembly election.

He now represents Rajasthan in Rajya Sabha but seems to be focussed on his ‘karambhumi’ Delhi. Senior most BJP MLA Jagdish Mukhi who was also aiming for CM post is more relying on his connections in RSS but not so active after AAP used his pictures to compare with Kejriwal.

Another former Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta just smiles on the question of CM-ship. The other contenders like Union Minister for Science and Technology Harsh Vardhan and New Delhi MP Meenakshi Lekhi seem to be following party whip of ‘no MP for CM ship’ while HRD minister Smriti Irani seems to be patient this time.

“Bringing a leader for the post of chief minister is not in the ‘culture’ of BJP. It will surely demoralise loyal party workers who stood with us in the days of struggle and brought the party at this level,” said a senior former MLA of Delhi BJP.

Several former MLAs of recently dissolved fifth Delhi assembly are clearly of the view that promoting Bedi for the post of chief minister would hurt the image of BJP but want to remain silent till the elections are over.

“The party will certainly benefit on her induction but she should not be given full credit, if it gets majority in the elections. We had got 32 seats without Bedi when Kejriwal on his peak,”said another former MLA.
