Decomposed body of Irish man found in Paharganj hotel room

The decomposed body of a 57-year-old Irish national was found under mysterious circumstances inside a hotel room in the Paharganj area of central Delhi on Monday morning. The deceased has been identified as James Stephen. His body was recovered from room number 102 of Krishna Cottage at Chuna Mandi, Paharganj at approximately 3 am.

Police said that James had checked in at the hotel alone on 3 July but had not come out of his room since then. The body was found after the hotel staff complained of a bad smell emanating from the room.

A police control room (PCR) call was made, after which a team of police officials reached the spot. Police broke open the door to the room and found James’ body. There were no visible injury marks on his body.

The body has been sent for postmortem examination at Lady Hardinge Medical College.
According to the deputy commissioner of police (central), Alok Kumar, investigations so far suggest that James had died two to three days back. However, the exact cause of his death can be ascertained only after postmortem.

Police said that they were checking the CCTV footages  of the hotel and questioning the staff to establish the sequence of events, since the deceased checked in at the hotel. 'Two constables posted at the Paharganj police station, along with the staff of the hotel are checking the CCTV footage of the hotel. The entire footage of the past five days is being scruitnised,' the officer added.
No case has been registerd so far. The future course of action would depend on the postmortem report.
