Dealers want diesel prices to be lowered

The Delhi Petrol Dealers Association has claimed that truckers are adding poison to Delhi’s air by using cheap but low-grade diesel from Haryana.

The association has demanded the government to bring the rate of high-quality diesel in Delhi on a par with the low-quality diesel available in neighbouring Haryana.

‘The truckers in Delhi prefer to purchase low-quality cheaper Euro-3 diesel available in neighbouring city of Haryana. This diesel in not allowed in Delhi but the trucks get their tankers filled before entering the capital and emit highly polluting gases,’ said Rajiv Jain, executive member of Delhi Petrol Dealers Association.

In Delhi only Euro-4 grade diesel is allowed to be sold which is costlier than Euro-3 diesel. According to sources, the current price of Euro-3 diesel is Rs 49.33 per litre while that of Euro-4 diesel is Rs 50.84 per liter. Since truckers purchase diesel in bulk this slight
price difference makes a huge difference.

‘Government is losing a huge amount of revenue due to this slight difference of price in Euro-3 and Euro-4. The sale of diesel would be doubled if the rates are made equal,’ Jain added.
