Dead patient’s relatives ransack Malda hospital

The patient party allegedly ransacked a Malda nursing home on Friday morning. They even gheraoed the medical super there.

The patient party alleged that the nursing home initially admitted the woman, but they delayed the process of transferring the patient to Kolkata, when her condition deteriorated.

The woman died in a Kolkata nursing home on Thursday night.

Her kin allegedly barged into the nursing home at Malda’s English Bazar, where she was initially admitted.

The owners of the nursing home were injured after the attackers beat them up. The doctors, including
medical super were also beaten up.

The police rescued the owners, and they were rushed to another nursing home for treatment.

Police said, Ranu Begham (32), was admitted in the maternity ward of the nursing home. She was pregnant, but doctor said, she had some other problems as well.

The doctors of the Kolkata-based nursing home, however, made it clear during her admission that, the lady was critical.

They also said that it was quite late to admit her there and they can only try to save the lives of her and her baby. Ranu died after fighting with her ailment at Kolkata.

“Her relatives started to smash the windowpane of the nursing home. They also broke the glasses in other cabins of the hospital,” said a police officer.

“Later, they rushed to medical super’s room. They broke the glass of table there. The gheraoed him in his chamber for a long time. Police rescued him from there,” said the officer. The patient party allegedly beat up some nurses there.

Ruckus at hospitals by patient parties is common. Similar incidents took place at Kolkata’s R G Kar Medical College and Hospital and Malda medical College and Hospital recently.

The patient party initially beat up the on-duty junior doctors and health staff. Later, the doctors also took revenge.

A similar incident also took place at IPGMER and SSKM Hospital a year ago, the best state-run hospital
was tuned into a battle ground. The police were sent to control the situation.
