Dead patient’s kin ransack hospital in South 24 Parganas

The relatives of a patient admitted in a private nursing home ransacked the place on Saturday night after a pregnant woman died. The nursing home initially admitted the woman, but when her condition deteriorated, they delayed her to transfer to Kolkata for better treatment.

The woman died in a Kolkata hospital, but her kins barged into the nursing home at South 24 Parganas’ Joynagar, where he was initially admitted. The incident took place at Joynagar’s Patpukur area where the patient’s relatives went on a rampage at the nursing home.

Joydeb Mondal, the owner of the nursing home was severely injured after the attackers bruised him black and blue. The police rescued the owner, and he was rushed to another nursing home 

for treatment.

Police said, that the victim, Rubaiya Biwi (20), was admitted in the maternity ward. She was pregnant, but admitted with acute anemia. On September 6, the woman was admitted in the nursing home, but the doctors released her on Friday for admission in a Kolkata hospital.

The doctors at the hospital in Kolkata, however, clarified during her admission that it was quite late to admit her there, and they can only try to save her life without giving any guarantee.

On Saturday night, Rubaiya died after fighting with her ailment at Kolkata. Her relatives had gone 

to the Joynagar nursing home, and created a ruckus there. They broke the window panes, glasses in the operation theatre, emergency and enquiry section of the nursing home.

It may be mentioned  here that a similar incident had taken place at the SSKM hospital in Kolkata 

a few days ago, when a patient died and his family members created a ruckus over there.

The relatives of the dead patient initially beat up the junior doctors on duty and health staff. Later, the doctors barged in on them to take the revenge.

The SSKM, the best state-run hospital turned into a battleground. The police needed to send a force to tackle the situation.
