Dead patient’s kin ransack hospital in Burdwan

The relatives of a patient who died in a private hospital after being admitted to it ransacked some portions of the nursing home on Sunday morning triggering tension in the area.

The victim, Seikh Majnoor, a resident of Haribati village of Burdwan was taken to a private nursing home at Babur Bagan area on Saturday night. But his condition deteriorated later. As the news of patient’s death reached his village, the people in large number started pouring into the nursing home. They brought stones, iron rods with them and went on rampage ransacking a portion of the nursing home.

The nursing home authorities, however, claimed that the patient’s condition was serious when he was admitted to the hospital. Later in the night his condition deteriorated further. The patient’s relatives ransacked the operation theatre and the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital.

The security guards of the private nursing home were beaten up when they tried to prevent the mob from ransacking the nursing home. Some relatives of the patients were also injured in the incident.

After being informed, a huge contingent of police force rushed to the spot and arrested two persons for creating trouble and damaging the nursing home. The incident spread tension in the locality.

The doctors at the hospital, however, claimed that the patient was brought to the nursing home quite late when his condition had already turned from bad to worse.

The mob created a ruckus inside the nursing home, broke the window panes, glasses in the operation theatre and emergency and enquiry sections of the nursing home. When the security guards tried to restrict them, they were overpowered.

Later, the relatives of the patient barged into the nursing home and carried out the rampage.

The nursing home authorities, however, denied any negligence on the part of the hospital. Police have started a probe in this connection so far and interrogating the arrested persons in this connection.
