DDCA against appointment of administrator for Sept matches

The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) on Monday opposed in Delhi High Court the appointment of an administrator to oversee cricket matches to be held in September at Ferozshah Kotla stadium here.

The submission was made by DDCA’s lawyer who also told a bench of justices S Ravindra Bhat and Deepa Sharma that the cricketing body has accepted the recommendations of Justice Mukul Mudgal regarding its functioning.

Advocate Nitin Mishra, representing Justice Mudgal, told the court that the retired judge does not wish to continue as observer of DDCA as he has other commitments.

Mishra said if the court requests, then Justice Mudgal would continue in the position and added that in such a situation, the judge should be allowed to constitute a 3-5 member team who would assist him in discharging his mandate. The court said Justice Mudgal should continue in the post till some alternative arrangments were made or till a final solution was arrived at and allowed his request to set up the team, saying he “can seek assistance of individuals he deems fit for the purpose”.

“He should at least stay on till September 15 (when the domestic matches would be held at the stadium),” it said.

Meanwhile, an application through advocate Rohit Gandhi was moved by eight directors, including Vice President Chetan Chauhan and Treasurer Ravinder Manchanda, of DDCA seeking implementation of the recommendations of Justice Mudgal.

The bench said it will not go into the matter on Monday and listed it for hearing on September 22, when it commences hearing on three issues - firstly, whether an administrator needs to be appointed and who; secondly, arguments in support and against the Mudgal committee report and finally, what survives in the petition before it.
