DCW to help Alka Lamba file case against Sharma

Expressing shock over a BJP legislator’s alleged remarks against AAP legislator Alka Lamba in the Delhi assembly on Tuesday, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief on Wednesday said they would help in filing a court case against him.

“Now since he (Om Prakash Sharma) has repeated such an offence, we will be taking it up with the highest authority and we will also be now supporting Alka Lamba in filing a court case against him,” DCW chief Swati Maliwal said. She further added said the matter was above party politics and using such a derogatory language was unacceptable.

“It’s not about party politics. If in the Delhi Assembly that is supposed to legislate for women protection, a legislator can insult a fellow woman legislator, it’s really shocking. It needs to be set right. Nobody should be able to misbehave with a woman and get away with it,” she said. “What kind of a message are they (BJP) trying to convey? I strongly feel this should be above party politics. What has been said is extremely wrong,” she added.

Maliwal also said the DCW had last time in another incident recommended filing of an FIR against Sharma but Delhi Police did not comply.

“When we tried to register an FIR against him, the police did not register the FIR. So that has encouraged him to repeat the offence. What has happened now is shocking and completely unacceptable,” she added.
