DCW staff wear black bands to protest non-payment of salary for three months

Staffers of the Delhi Commission for Women on Thursday wore black arm bands in office to protest non-payment of their salary for more than three months. The women body’s chief, Swati Maliwal, had last month alleged that the LG-appointed member secretary to DCW had stopped releasing salary to the staff and the panel was considering shutting down its mobile helplines and the rape crisis cell.

“Around 80 contractual staff members have not been given their salary for more than three months. They have decided not to give up on work and continue assisting young girls and women who approach us, but wear black bands as a mark of protest,” a DCW official said.

“Non-payment of salary may result into shutting down of 181 women helpline, the rape crisis cell, mobile helpline among others,” the official said.
