DBA elects new executive body

The District Bar Association (DBA) elected its new executive body on Friday electing Advocate Parbat Singh Thakran as its president. Advocate Jitender Kaushik as the vice-president, Nirmala Ranjan as the joint secretary and Advocate Naveen Yadav was elected for the post of secretary out of a total of 12 candidates standing in the elections.

Around 1,815 of 2,300 lawyers voted during the elections which were conducted in the city court near Rajiv Chowk from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm after which the results were declared. Door-to-door meeting including dinners were organised by the candidates to ensure no stone goes unturned. The meeting included talks about several promises made by the lawyers of improving sanitation facilities, constructing new chambers and keeping up with cleanliness. Out of the 2,700 lawyers who voted 250 were women. Nirmala Ranjan, the only woman candidate and the newly-elected joint secretary said her focus will be offering special benefits to female lawyers especially a women-exclusive chamber.
