Dalit girl alleges gangrape in moving car in Amritsar

Amritsar police have booked three persons accused in the gangrape of a dalit girl whom they abducted when she was returning home on Monday evening.

The 20-year-old girl in her complaint alleged that a car stopped near her when she was walking towards Maha Singh gate around 7.30 pm. The accused forced her into the back seat and thereafter picked up a third man on the way.

The incident took place near Suraj Chanda Tara Cinema. She said that they put a handkerchief on her mouth and she subsequently fainted. The trio then ‘raped’ her. On gaining consciousness, she found herself lying near a religious site in the cantonment area. The girl was first rushed to a private hospital around 9 pm and was later taken to Amritsar Civil Hospital.

The accused identified in the case were Aditya, Rocky and Abhi, said police commissioner Ram Singh. ‘We are investigating the case. So far there are no arrests,’ he said.

A case under section 363 (Punishment for kidnapping) and 376 (2) (g) (gangrape) of Indian Penal Code has been registered by police against the accused at about 1:45 am on Tuesday after recording the statement of the girl. ‘Police took the girl to private hospital at about 9 pm from the place where she was allegedly dumped,’ Commissioner said.
