Curfew in interior areas of Srinagar

Curfew continues in five police station areas of <g data-gr-id="23">downtown</g> (interior areas) city as a precautionary measure, a police official said here.

He said the curbs on the movement of people in the police station areas of Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari, Safakadal and Maharaj Gunj have been imposed in view of the <g data-gr-id="29">fourth day</g> mourning of 12-year-old Junaid Akhoon, who was hit by pellets at Saidapora and later succumbed to injuries at SKIMS Hospital at <g data-gr-id="34">Soura</g>. He was buried on Saturday.

The official said the curbs in other areas of the city, where they were imposed yesterday in view of <g data-gr-id="21">Muhurram</g>, have been lifted.

With the lifting of the curbs from most areas of the city, there was increased movement of traffic around Lal Chowk this morning, while some vendors were also seen selling fruits, <g data-gr-id="25">vegetables</g> and other items, the official said.

However, normal life remained affected for the 95th consecutive day in the rest of the Valley following <g data-gr-id="24">killing</g> of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in an encounter with security forces on July 8.

The unrest, which has claimed 84 lives including that of two cops and left thousands of others injured in clashes between protestors and security forces, is in its fourth month as shops, business establishments, petrol <g data-gr-id="27">pumps</g> and educational institutions remained closed, while public transport continued to be off the roads.
