Criminal, who wanted to kill rival posing as a doctor, arrested

Sleuths of the Special Cell arrested a criminal at Dilshad Garden area who was wanted in at least 30 cases of murder, attempt to murder, robberies, burglaries, Arms Act. 

According to the senior police officials, in May this year, Dharamabir had allegedly hatched a plan to eliminate his rival Kamaljeet who was admitted at the Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital. 

To execute his plan, Dharamabir allegedly procured three white Aprons with the motive to visit the hospital in disguise of a doctor/hospital staff and kill Kamaljit. Police said that they had kept a reward of Rs 25,000 on Dharamabir’s arrest.

“He got this idea from a regional movie he recently watched on TV. He was about to execute the plan but Kamaljeet was shifted from GTB Hospital to some other Hospital and hence the plan got delayed,” said a senior Special Cell official.

According to the police, Dharamabir and Kamaljeet first met in Tihar Jail in 2002 where they became accquiantances. They allegedly got embroiled in a minor argument with one Mustafa. Once they left jail, they both murdered him in the Loni area of Ghaziabad.

Together, they started a gang. However, with time, differences started cropping between the two when one Chaman, Dharambir’s friend allegedly eloped with Kamaljeet’s girlfriend. This gradually led to a gang war and from then onwards, they started firing and cross-firing at each other, said police on Saturday.

According to the police, on October 25, in a sensational shootout between Kamaljeet and Dharamabir’s gangs, Kamaljeet was attacked by his rival, Dharambir and his associates Subhash Rawat, Kalu and three others.

Police said that this one incident of shootout led to apprehension among cops that this incident would further aggravate the situation. 

Hence, the Special Cell sleuths started collecting information regarding the absconding criminals and it came to their knowledge that this shootout was culmination of a series of shootouts between these gangs.

A senior police official said: “We received information through local sources that Dharamabir will come to meet one of his associates near District Park, Dilshad Garden. Based on this input, Dharamabir was apprehended. One .32 mm bore loaded pistol with three live cartridges were recovered from his possession.”

Police said that cases of attempt to murder have been registered against Dharamabir in four police stations across Delhi. Further investigation is underway.
